1. Is breakfast included? What is on the menu?
Yes, breakfast is included in the price. We have cereal, milk, pastries and, of course, coffee by the ton.
2. Is there a kitchen that guests can use?
No, sorry. There is a good reason for us not having a kitchen. In many of the hostels in which we have stayed, we have noticed that a shared kitchen can cause bad feeling between guests, and we don't want any bad feeling at Cat's Hostel. Apart from the fact that we genuinely felt that a kitchen was not essential, it is not at all expensive to eat in Madrid. Every bar will offer you a free snack with your beer. Our staff will tell you about the best and least expensive places to eat, but good food is available in virtually the whole of Madrid.
3. Do I need to bring sheets or a sleeping bag?
That is a very good question. At Cat's, we provide all the bedclothes you need (sheets, blankets, etc.) as part of the price of your bed. If necessary, we can also provide you with a towel, although in that case we will ask you for a small deposit, which will be returned when you leave the hostel.
4. Is smoking allowed in the hostel? Do you sell tobacco?
Smoking is permitted in designated areas of the hostel, but we operate a very strict no-smoking policy everywhere else. The hostel has a central heating and air-conditioning system, and smoking in the chill-out area results in smoke ending up in the bedrooms. Please respect our smoke-free areas. The hostel does not sell tobacco of any kind.
5. What is the hostel's policy as regards drugs?
No drugs of any kind may be consumed in Cat's. Anyone found taking drugs in the hostel will be expelled immediately and refused entry thereafter, notwithstanding any legal action that may ensue. Consumption and possession of small amounts for personal use does not constitute a crime in Spain, but consumption in public places does. Severe penalties apply to dealing.
6. What activities does the hostel arrange?
Twice a week, we stage parties featuring DJs from the area. The actual dates are always a surprise, although advance warning is given in the form of a very special song that is only played over the hostel's PA system on days on which a party will be taking place.
7. Is there somewhere in the rooms to leave suitcases? What about the day of departure?
Each guest will find a cupboard with a lock in their room, where they can leave their belongings. The cupboards are generally secure, but we will not take responsibility for objects of value left in them. There is a safe at reception where you can leave any objects and documents which you want us to look after, free of charge. As regards the day of your departure, we offer a free left-luggage facility, where you can leave your bags and suitcases. The door of the left-luggage facility will be opened for 5 minutes every 2 hours so that you can collect your belongings. We ask that you adapt to these times in order to benefit from the free service, although the facility can be opened at other times, subject to a small fee. You may only leave your belongings in the left-luggage facility on the day of your departure and you must retrieve them before 10 p.m. on the same day for security reasons. Any luggage not removed by 10 p.m. may be examined by our staff. In the case of them being unable to open it, the police will be asked to treat it as abandoned luggage and it may thus be destroyed. If that is the case, Cat's shall not be liable for any damages or losses which may arise. If you fail to remove your luggage and Cat's considers it to be safe, it will be stored. However, a daily storage cost will be incurred, which must be paid in order to retrieve your belongings. |
